History of Sudagaran Batik Motifs and Explanations – Sudagaran batik has been known to us since the royal era, from Majapahit to the new Mataram. To be able to get to know more about the history of traditional batik, let’s describe one by one starting from the beginning of the emergence of traditional batik itself.
History of Sudagaran Batik
The Keraton environment at that time had strict rules in the use of batik, including the batik motif, where the batik motif could only be used by certain kings or courtiers related to the meaning of batik motifs that must be carried out by the wearer. This gave rise to the term batik prohibition.

According to another source, the history of traditional batik began in the nineteenth century, more precisely in the 1850s. The development of sudagaran batik was in line with the development of how to make batik itself using canting stamps to fulfill the orders of the people at that time which was increasing very rapidly and also aimed at making the price of a piece of batik cloth more affordable for the lower class.
Sudagaran batik models generally give a bolder impression in the selection of shapes, the choice of motifs on natural or animal objects, as well as color combinations that are more dominated by natural soga colors and dark blue colors. Batik Sudagaran always presents quality in the process and the workmanship is relatively quite complicated in presenting a new batik cloth.
The history of batik sudagaran records that stamped batik appeared in the era of sudagaran batik, but written batik is still a premium class batik to this day because of the long processing process and the intricate details of the motifs drawn.
